Getting Started with Payroll Module

Before you start using payroll module for your company, you need to customize the payroll module according to your specific requirements. The following steps are the few basic steps that allow you to configure and run payroll. The configuration of payroll module is a one time activity. However, you need to run payroll, as an HR manager each month/ pay period to calculate and distribute salaries.

Steps to Configure Payroll

To customize/ configure payroll, you need to:

1. Set Financial Year / Time period to be used in Payroll module.
2. Configure Approval for Payroll Processing. Click Perform Payroll Configurations to learn how to perform this step.
3. Declare Pay Period type to be used. Click Perform Payroll Configurations to learn how to perform this step.
4. Declare Pay periods. Click Perform Payroll Configurations to learn how to perform this step.
5. Declare time period to be used. Click Perform Payroll Configurations to learn how to perform this step.
6. Enable investment declarations. Click Perform Payroll Configurations to learn how to perform this step.
7. Setup Investment declaration time period. Click Perform Payroll Configurations to learn how to perform this step.
8. Declare Salary Processing mode to be used. Click Perform Payroll Configurations to learn how to perform this step.
9. Setup Payroll Variables. Click Setup Payroll Variables to learn how to perform this step.
10. Define and Assign Salary Structures to employees. Click Define Salary Structures to learn how to perform this step. Alternatively (Upload Salary Breakup for employees ). Click Upload Salary Structure to learn how to perform this step.
11. Initiate Investment Declarations process. Click Setup Investment Declaration to learn how to perform this step.

Steps to Run Payroll as an HR Manager

1. View Payroll details for the pay period for which you want to run the payroll. 2. Click Run Payroll to learn how to perform this step.
3. Calculate payroll for selected / all the employees. Click Calculate Payroll to learn how to perform this step.
4. Optionally erase multiple payroll. Click Calculate Payroll to learn how to perform this step.
5. View and Adjust the calculated payroll (if required). Click Calculate Payroll to learn how to perform this step.
6. Send Payroll for Approval. Click Send Payroll for Approval to learn how to perform this step.
7. Verify and approve payroll (To be done by the approver). Click Verify and Approve Payroll to learn how to perform this step.
8. View Finalized payroll. Click Finalize Payroll to learn how to perform this step.
9. Optionally set payment mode. Click Set Payment Mode to learn how to perform this step.
10. Disburse Payroll. Click Disburse Payroll to learn how to perform this step.
